DEFENSE DAY (6TH SEPTEMBER):
6 September, Defense Day, Youm-e-Difa-e-Pakistan , is celebrated as national day to commemorate the sacrifices made by Pakistani soldiers in defending its borders.
The date of 6 September marks the day, in 1965 when Indian troops crossed the International border to launch an attack on Pakistani Punjab in a riposte to Pakistan's Operation Grand Slam targeting Jammu.
OPERATION GRAND SLAM:
Operation Grand Slam was a key military operation on the Indo-Pakistan War on 1965. It refers to a plan drawn up by the Pakistan Army in May 1965 that consisted of an attack on the vital Akhnoor Bridge in Indian Jammu and Kashmir.
INDO-PAK WAR 1965:
The Indo-Pakistan war of 1965 was a climax of battle took place between April 1965 and September 1965 between Pakistan and India. The conflict began following Pakistan's operation Gibraltar, which was designed to infiltrate forces into Jammu and Kashmir to precipitate a revolt against Indian rule.
HOW DEFENSE DAY IS CELEBRATED IN PAKISTAN?
The Pakistan Army displays its latest missiles, tanks, guns, and armament used by Engineers, Air Defense and etc. Everyone is allowed to watch such functions live by going to specific places. These shows are also displayed on national TV channels. National songs, special documentaries related to 6 September 1965 and the stories of the people who were martyred on that day are displayed on TV. The facts are told of how people sacrificed their lives for the defense of the country and what the responsibility of younger generation, the children who are the future of Pakistan.
Students in schools also celebrate Defense Day by organizing functions, tablos, in which they show the soldiers being martyred, and also play national songs.

The martyrs of 6 September 1965 are Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, Naik Saif Ali Januja Shaheed, Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Pilot officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed, Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Sarwar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Lance Naik Muhammad Mahfuz Shaheed, Captain Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed and Hawaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed.
